Following school, he worked for 3 years at Base Borden, courted and married Mary (Craft) Elson on October 10th, 1953 and worked briefly as an agent for the London Life Insurance Co. in Midland, Ontario. On June 28th, 1956, Bill was employed by (then) The Public Utilities Commission of the City of Barrie where he worked as office manager and secretary-treasurer until his retirement on June 28th, 1993.

Following his separation and divorce from Mary, Bill married Lynda in 1981. Lynda and her daughter Lori were a large part of Bill's life for many years until separation and divorce also claimed this marriage in 1990.

Bill attended Sunday school and church at Essa Road Presbyterian Church since he as seven years of age, but it was not until after his second divorce when he began searching for the true meaning of life and he committed his life to Jesus Christ in 1991.
