Tribute

HILL, David Osborne  With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of David Hill, 82, on June 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. David was born to Theodore and Winnifred Hill in Norwich, Ontario. As a young man, David tended and raised livestock on the family dairy farm. Upon graduating high school, David attended the University of Waterloo where he received a teaching degree and BSc in Mathematics. David married the love of his life, Jean Hill (LeGrow), daughter of Solomon and Adeline LeGrow of Bauline, Newfoundland, in Toronto on April 17, 1965 and welcomed two sons, Brent and Paul in 1967 and 1969.  A devoted husband and father, David taught math and science at Norwich District and Milton District High Schools. Upon moving to St. John's, Newfoundland with his family in 1980, David successfully owned and operated two St. Clair Paint and Wallpaper stores. David and Jean retired to Barrie, Ontario in 1999 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. David is survived by his loving wife, Jean, sons Brent Hill (Lynn-Anne) and Paul Hill (Richard); grandchildren Jemma Stubbings (Patrick), Jules Hill, Aaron Stephens (Alannah) and Nathan Driver, as well as precious great-grandchild Carter Stephens; sister Helen Dougherty (Larry, deceased); sisters-in-law Florence King (Alton, deceased), Joyce LeGrow, Viola Mercer (Howard, deceased), Phyllis Thorne (Clayton) and Irene LeGrow (Melvin, deceased); brothers-in-law Cecil LeGrow (Doris), Dexter LeGrow (Margaret, deceased), Grenvil LeGrow (Debbie) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister-in-law Vera Kirby and brother-in-law Frederick Kirby. David was an incredibly smart, determined and compassionate man who, against all odds and with extensive rehabilitation, survived and recovered from a serious spinal cord injury in 2005. Despite ongoing challenges, David and Jean went on to live a full life including extensive travel and hosting many large family gatherings which he enjoyed to the fullest.  In later years, David lived according to his motto “Everything will be alright in the end, if it’s not alright, it’s not the end”.  He was a great asset to his family and community and will be sorely missed by many.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David, are gratefully appreciated to Toronto’s Lyndhurst Rehabilitation Centre or a charity of one’s choice, through the JENNETT FUNERAL & CREMATION CENTRE, 152 Bradford Street in Barrie.   A Celebration of Life will be held in Norwich at a later date.
